Emergency medicine dictation software for Mac
Loquen is emergency medicine dictation software for Mac: hold one key, talk, let go, and clean, punctuated text lands at your cursor on your Mac. Its Emergency Medicine pack holds 265 terms, so Mallampati score, PECARN rule and the Rumack-Matthew nomogram come out spelled the way you write them.
What the Emergency Medicine pack covers
In the pack’s own words: Emergency medicine vocabulary covering resuscitation, airway management, trauma, toxicology, decision rules, bedside procedures, and disposition language. That is 265 entries. Each one is the spelling you want typed, most with the mishearings a general speech model produces for it. When a term shows up in a dictation, the AI cleanup is told not to “correct” it.

What you say, what gets typed
The left column is how a general speech model tends to write the spoken words. The pack swaps it for the right column before the text is pasted.
| What you say | What gets typed |
|---|---|
| “malam potty score” | Mallampati score |
| “boogie assisted intubation” | bougie-assisted intubation |
| “rue mack matthew nomogram” | Rumack-Matthew nomogram |
| “pea can rule” | PECARN rule |
| “curb sixty five” | CURB-65 |
| “coda equine a syndrome” | cauda equina syndrome |
| “auto wa ankle rules” | Ottawa ankle rules |
| “thumb spike a splint” | thumb spica splint |
How it fits the day
Between patients, hold the key and say the reassessment, the procedure note or the disposition. Loquen pastes at the cursor in any app with a text field, including an EHR in the browser. Double-tap the key for hands-free when your hands are busy; Esc cancels with nothing pasted. People speak about 150 words a minute and type about 40.
The pack works alongside Medical core (2,307 terms, built around drug names, generic and brand, plus exam language, labs and imaging) and Pharmacology, which covers the long tail of drug classes. Every pack is included in the price. The packs are English only so far.
The pack also ships a starter set of phrases. A phrase is a named block of text: say its name anywhere in a sentence and the whole block pastes, untouched by the AI. Rename the starters, rewrite them, or add your own.
Private by default
Speech to text and AI cleanup run on the Mac’s own chip. In Private mode, the default, nothing you say leaves the computer: no audio, no text. The initial approximately 2.2 GB model download uses the network but carries no dictation. After setup, licence validation and update checks can use the network and carry no audio or text. No account, no telemetry, no screenshots. Built for HIPAA the simple way: patient notes never touch a server, so there is no server to trust. HIPAA compliance is about a practice’s whole workflow, so check with your compliance officer.
