General surgery dictation software for Mac
Loquen is general surgery dictation software for Mac: hold one key, talk, let go, and clean, punctuated text lands at your cursor on your Mac. Its General Surgery pack holds 223 terms, so Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the Pfannenstiel incision and Yankauer suction come out spelled the way you write them.
What the General Surgery pack covers
In the pack’s own words: General and gastrointestinal surgery vocabulary covering operations, instruments, incisions, eponymous signs, staging systems, and perioperative documentation. That is 223 entries. Each one is the spelling you want typed, most with the mishearings a general speech model produces for it. When a term shows up in a dictation, the AI cleanup is told not to “correct” it.

What you say, what gets typed
The left column is how a general speech model tends to write the spoken words. The pack swaps it for the right column before the text is pasted.
| What you say | What gets typed |
|---|---|
| “rue en why gastric bypass” | Roux-en-Y gastric bypass |
| “fannen steel incision” | Pfannenstiel incision |
| “yank hour suction” | Yankauer suction |
| “vike ril suture” | Vicryl suture |
| “r naught resection” | R0 resection |
| “total parental nutrition” | total parenteral nutrition |
| “drain output sero sanguinous” | drain output serosanguineous |
| “four near gangrene” | Fournier gangrene |
How it fits the day
Say the brief operative note, the postoperative check or the discharge plan the way you would say it aloud. Loquen pastes at the cursor in any app with a text field, including an EHR in the browser. Double-tap the key for hands-free; Esc cancels with nothing pasted.
The pack works alongside Medical core (2,307 terms, built around drug names, generic and brand, plus exam language, labs and imaging) and Pharmacology, which covers the long tail of drug classes. Every pack is included in the price. The packs are English only so far.
The pack also ships a starter set of phrases. A phrase is a named block of text: say its name anywhere in a sentence and the whole block pastes, untouched by the AI. Rename the starters, rewrite them, or add your own.
Private by default
Speech to text and AI cleanup run on the Mac’s own chip. In Private mode, the default, nothing you say leaves the computer: no audio, no text. The initial approximately 2.2 GB model download uses the network but carries no dictation. After setup, licence validation and update checks can use the network and carry no audio or text. No account, no telemetry, no screenshots. Built for HIPAA the simple way: patient notes never touch a server, so there is no server to trust. HIPAA compliance is about a practice’s whole workflow, so check with your compliance officer.
